Chelsea Park is in the District of West Vancouver, which sends the tax notice and decides every building, tree and creek permit for an address here. On October 11, 2026, half of the listings named West Vancouver on the municipality line and half left it blank.

Where Chelsea Park is and what it is like

Chelsea Park is the name MLS® listings give to the streets around Chairlift Road, north of the Upper Levels Highway (Highway 1) and uphill from the top of 26th Street. Chairlift Road leaves Skilift Road beside the highway and climbs for 1.1 kilometres to Chippendale Road. Five dead-end streets open off it or off each other: Skilift Place, Chairlift Close, Chelsea Court, Chelsea Close and Chelsea Place.

All of it stands on a slope that faces south. Natural Resources Canada's elevation data gives 191 metres above sea level at the corner of Chairlift Road and Skilift Road, 232 metres where Chelsea Court meets Chairlift Road and 264 metres at the end of Chelsea Place. The European Copernicus model, a second dataset, differs by 5 metres or less at each point. Dundarave village, on Marine Drive, is at 27 metres.

The area is small. The map data on this page counts no grocery store, cafe, pharmacy or clinic inside it, and few homes are for sale here at one time. The pages for Queens, Panorama Village, and Deer Ridge and Whitby Estates, next door, show more homes.

In our view, Chelsea Park suits a household with a car that wants a detached house, a view and a street with no through traffic, and is content to drive down the hill for groceries. If you want to walk to shops, start with Dundarave.

What the homes are like

Few homes are for sale in Chelsea Park at one time, so the shares below can change with a single new listing. On October 11, 2026, 83% of the homes this page counted here were detached houses and 17% were townhouses. No condo was listed here that day. Homes were listed on Chairlift Road, Chelsea Court, Skilift Place and Skilift Road.

The homes come from five different periods. One third of those listed that day were finished in the 1990s. The 1960s, the 1970s, the 2000s and the years before 1960 each had 17%. The middle house dated from 1972, had four bedrooms and 2,883 square feet of floor area, and stood on a lot of more than 13,000 square feet. No house listing that day stated a suite. In our experience, a lot of that size on a slope has less level ground than its area suggests.

Views are common. On that date, 83% of the listing descriptions mentioned one. The photo at the top of this page was taken on January 26, 2014 from Cypress Bowl Road, 367 metres in a straight line north of the top of Chairlift Road. That afternoon, low cloud covered the city below the slope.

The townhouses listed that day were newer. The middle one dated from 2005 and had three bedrooms and 2,596 square feet. A townhouse is a strata home: you own your unit, you share the land and the outside of the buildings with the other owners, and a monthly fee pays for their care.

History

A ski chairlift, a creek name and a school

The street names here come from skiing. The West Vancouver Archives record that Chairlift Road was once the part of 26th Street that ran north of the Upper Levels Highway. Council adopted the new name in 1962, and the Archives give the council minutes of September 10, 1962 as the source. The name honours the Hollyburn Aerial Tramways chairlift, which carried people up Hollyburn Ridge from a station that this road led to.

The Hollyburn Heritage Society tells the story of the lift. It opened on January 17, 1951, and the ride to Hi-View Lodge, a log building beside the top station at 850 metres, took 12 minutes. Most of its chairs carried one person. During the night before June 6, 1965, a fire destroyed the lodge and damaged the top station.

Rodgers Creek runs down through the middle of the area. The province's place name office adopted that name on May 7, 1959, and its record says the creek flows south into Burrard Inlet.

The homes came over several decades. Among the homes listed here on October 11, 2026, the oldest group was finished before 1960 and the largest group in the 1990s. Collingwood School, an independent school, says it bought land on Wentworth Avenue for a junior school and opened its Wentworth campus in 1997. No source we read says who chose the name Chelsea Park or which company laid out the Chelsea streets.

Daily life

Daily life in Chelsea Park

Each errand starts with a trip down the hill. The table on this page puts the nearest grocery store, cafe and beach each more than a kilometre away in a straight line, and the map places the store and the cafe in Dundarave village, on Marine Drive.

People on foot have a shorter way than drivers. A bridge for walkers and cyclists crosses the highway beside the corner of Chairlift Road and Skilift Road and joins a paved path to the top of 26th Street. On the map, the bridge and the path together measure 208 metres, and 26th Street then runs 908 metres downhill toward the village. The way home is a climb, because the corner is 164 metres higher than Marine Drive at 25th Street.

Collingwood School's Wentworth campus is on Wentworth Avenue, a short street off Chairlift Road. By the school's own account, 656 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7 attend it. In our experience, Chairlift Road is busy when the school day starts and ends and quiet at other hours.

The lowest homes are close to the highway. The map draws the corner of Chairlift Road and Skilift Road less than 50 metres from it. Stand in the garden of a home on Skilift Road or Skilift Place and listen.

Outdoors

Chairlift Park, the creek and the paths

Chairlift Park is the area's own park, in the 2700 block of Chelsea Close. The District's list of sports courts, as saved on December 2, 2022, gives it one court, marked for both tennis and pickleball. The District's courts are first come, first served when no District lesson is booked.

Rodgers Creek comes down the slope beside Chairlift Road. Within 400 metres of the middle of the area, the map draws six pieces of it inside culverts, which are pipes that carry a creek under a road or a yard. Woods are mapped along the creek and east of Wentworth Avenue, toward Marr Creek, the next creek to the east.

Two paths lead out of the area. An unpaved path starts at the east end of Wentworth Avenue, runs 576 metres through the trees and ends near Chippendale Road. Along Chippendale Road, the map shows a paved path named Mountain Path.

South of the footbridge, the map shows an unpaved path from the top of 26th Street east to Brissenden Park, a forested park beside the highway. The table on this page also lists Cypress Provincial Park, whose edge is less than a kilometre from the middle of Chelsea Park in a straight line.

Schools

Schools near Chelsea Park

Chelsea Park is served by West Vancouver Schools (School District 45). The two nearest public elementary schools in the table on this page are West Bay Elementary on Thompson Place and Irwin Park Elementary on Haywood Avenue, each more than a kilometre away in a straight line. The district's page for West Bay says the school teaches Kindergarten to Grade 7 and gives every student the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, an international teaching framework.

For French immersion, the province's school list shows early and late programs at École Pauline Johnson on 22nd Street. The district's admission guidelines say Kindergarten places in early French immersion are assigned by lottery.

West Vancouver Secondary, on Mathers Avenue, is the nearest public high school. The district's site says applications open on October 15, 2026 for Kindergarten and for students in Grades 1 to 12 who live in a school's catchment, the set of addresses the school serves. Find the catchment school for an address with the school locator linked on this page.

Two independent schools are closer than any public school. The West Vancouver Archives record that Collingwood School has two campuses and that its Wentworth campus is at Chairlift Road, and the map draws it on Wentworth Avenue with a sports field beside it. The province's list files the school under the Morven Drive address of its other campus. Mulgrave School is on Cypress Bowl Lane, to the west.

Getting around

Getting around

Two highway exits are close. Skilift Road leads east to exit 10, signed for 21st Street, 22nd Street and Westhill Drive. Exit 8, signed for Cypress Bowl Road and the Cypress Mountain ski area, is the next exit to the west.

The nearest bus route is the 251, which runs along Queens Avenue on the south side of the highway, and Chelsea Park has no stop of its own. From the corner of Chairlift Road and Skilift Road, the walk over the footbridge and down 26th Street to the stop on Queens Avenue measures 421 metres on the map. The ground falls from 191 to 140 metres above sea level on the way.

TransLink's schedule for September 7, 2026 to January 3, 2027 gives the 251 a total of 25 weekday trips toward Park Royal from that stop, the first at 6:23 a.m. and the last at 10:52 p.m. The ride to the end of the route, at Marine Drive and Main Street beside Park Royal, takes 20 to 22 minutes. In the other direction, the bus reaches Marine Drive at 25th Street, in Dundarave village, 3 to 5 minutes after it passes 26th Street.

Downtown Vancouver takes one change. By the schedule, a rider on the 251 that passes the stop at 6:53, 7:23, 7:53 or 8:28 a.m. changes to a 257 or a 250 and reaches West Georgia Street at Burrard Street 27 to 38 minutes after boarding. Going home, the 250 buses that leave that downtown corner at 4:22, 4:52 and 5:22 p.m. arrive at Park Royal one minute before a 251 leaves, and the rider steps off at 26th Street 41 minutes after leaving downtown. A missed connection adds 30 minutes.

The 256 stops once an hour on Skilift Road at Folkestone Way, 845 metres in a straight line east of the Chairlift Road corner, from 6:33 a.m. to 7:33 p.m. on weekdays.

Things to check in Chelsea Park

Rodgers Creek and the creek rules

The District's page on creek permits, as saved on August 11, 2025, gives two rules. In existing neighbourhoods, any work within 15 metres of the top of a creek bank needs an Environmental Development Permit, and turning a lawn into a driveway counts as work. In the lands the District calls future neighbourhoods, generally north of Highway 1, a strip of 30 metres from the top of the bank must stay free of building. Chelsea Park is north of the highway and already built, so ask the District which rule applies to the address.

Wildfire permit area

Council approved the Wildfire Hazard permit area on December 14, 2020. The District's page, as saved on August 5, 2025, says it takes in every property within 100 metres of a forested area, and the map draws woods inside Chelsea Park along Rodgers Creek. Inside the permit area, a permit is needed before a new or replacement house is built or a lot is divided. Renovations are exempt, and the District still recommends its fire safety guidelines for new roofs and outbuildings. Look up the address on WestMap, the District's online map.

Trees, the creek and the view

West Vancouver's Tree Bylaw, as amended to December 15, 2025, requires a permit to cut a protected tree. Every tree inside a watercourse protection area is protected. So is any tree whose trunk is 75 centimetres or more across, measured 1.4 metres above the ground, and any arbutus, Pacific dogwood, Pacific yew, yellow cedar or Garry oak wider than 20 centimetres. Before you pay for a view over trees, find out who owns them.

Snow on the upper streets

The District clears snow in three groups. Its winter page, as saved on September 1, 2025, puts bus routes, emergency routes and main roads first and school routes second. Local roads, dead-end streets, footpaths and footbridges come third, once the storm has passed or the first two groups are safe. No bus runs on Chairlift Road, five streets here are dead ends, and the walk to the bus crosses a footbridge. Ask the seller how the street and the driveway were in the last snowy week.

Townhouse papers

The middle townhouse listed here on October 11, 2026 dated from 2005, which makes its roof and outside walls 21 years old in 2026 unless the owners have replaced them. BC requires a strata with five or more homes to get a depreciation report every five years. Ask for the newest report, this year's budget and two years of meeting minutes.

Buying

Buying a home in Chelsea Park

Decide first how high on the hill you want to live. The streets beside Skilift Road are nearest to the footbridge, the bus and the highway ramps, and nearest to the sound of the highway. Chelsea Court, Chelsea Close and Chelsea Place are higher and a longer walk from the bus.

Because few homes are listed here at one time, widen the search. In our experience, a buyer who likes Chelsea Park also looks at houses in Queens and Altamont, below the highway, and at townhouses in Panorama Village and Whitby Estates. Each of those areas has its own page.

Before an offer on a house, look up the address on WestMap for the creek and the wildfire permit area. Walk the whole lot: in our experience, many lots here have retaining walls, which are walls that hold back soil, so ask for their permits and have your inspector check the drains behind them. For a townhouse, read the strata papers first.

Michael Lee works with buyers in Chelsea Park and across West Vancouver. Send the form on this page with your budget, the bedrooms you need and whether you want a house or a townhouse. He will reply with the homes that fit, here and in the areas next door, and arrange visits.

Selling

Selling a home in Chelsea Park

With so few homes for sale here, a buyer who visits yours has usually seen every other home on this page. In our experience, the same buyer compares it with homes in Queens, Altamont and Whitby Estates in the same weeks.

In our experience, five things decide the price of a house here: the view from the main rooms, the level part of the lot, the age and condition of the house, the distance from the highway, and the walk to the Wentworth campus for families who want that school. Gather the papers before you list. Buyers ask for the permits for additions, walls and pools, and, for a townhouse, for the depreciation report and the minutes.

Under real estate board rules, sold prices stay off public pages such as this one. Michael Lee can go through recent sales in Chelsea Park and in the areas beside it with you in private, and suggest a list price. Ask for a price review with the form on this page.

Our view

Who buys in Chelsea Park

In our experience, the most common buyer in Chelsea Park is a family with children at Collingwood School or Mulgrave School, or hoping for a place at one, who wants a detached house and a short school trip.

A second group, in our experience, already owns a home on the North Shore and moves here for a larger lot and a view at a lower price than the waterfront. A third group skis or hikes and wants the exit for Cypress Bowl Road close to home.

Where does the name Chairlift Road come from?

The West Vancouver Archives record that Chairlift Road was the part of 26th Street north of the highway until council adopted the new name in 1962. It honours the Hollyburn chairlift, which the Hollyburn Heritage Society says opened on January 17, 1951 and took 12 minutes to reach Hi-View Lodge.

Which schools serve Chelsea Park?

Chelsea Park is in West Vancouver Schools (School District 45). The nearest public schools in the table are West Bay Elementary, Irwin Park Elementary and West Vancouver Secondary, and École Pauline Johnson teaches French immersion. Check the catchment school for each address in the district's school locator.

Is Collingwood School in Chelsea Park?

One of its two campuses is. The West Vancouver Archives place Collingwood School's Wentworth campus at Chairlift Road, and the map draws it on Wentworth Avenue. By the school's own account, the campus opened in 1997 and teaches Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7.

Are there creek rules to check in Chelsea Park?

Yes. Rodgers Creek runs through Chelsea Park, partly in culverts. The District requires a permit for work near a creek: within 15 metres of the top of the bank in existing neighbourhoods, with a strip of 30 metres kept free of building in the lands it calls future neighbourhoods. Ask the District which rule applies.

Is Chelsea Park good for families?

In our view, yes, for a family with a car. The streets off Chairlift Road are dead ends, a park with a court is on Chelsea Close and an independent school campus is inside the area. The trade-offs are the hill, the drive to shops and public schools more than a kilometre away.

How do I find out what my Chelsea Park home is worth?

Ask for a price review with the form on this page. Michael Lee will look at the view, the lot and the condition of your home, compare it with recent sales in Chelsea Park and the areas beside it, and explain a list price to you in private.
